about us

Are you into rock climbing or mountaineering? AURAC is one of the largest climbing clubs in New Zealand, and one of the most active outdoor clubs associated with the University of Auckland. We meet on Wednesday nights from 7 pm at the Birkenhead Pool and Leisure Centre for our indoor climbing club nights. On the weekends, we run outdoor rock climbing and alpine trips. There are plenty of social events on offer. During the summer months, we can also be found slacklining at Albert Park, for all keen members to try or show off their skills.

Our members range from complete beginners, to those with years of experience. We welcome new members of any level; and whether you’re associated with the university or not. We run instruction courses for both rock climbing and alpine/mountaineering, to help our members improve their skills. We offer free gear hire to our members, so no one needs to spend lots of money getting into the sport.
