AURAC Code of Conduct

Auckland University Rock and Alpine Club (AURAC)

AURAC is not a professional organisation. It is a non-profit University club run by volunteers.

I understand that AURAC instructors and assessors are volunteers and may not have any formal qualifications to instruct or assess members in any climbing or related activity.

Safety

  1. I understand that partaking in any climbing or related activity involves inherent risks and can result in injuries, including but not limited to, physical, and psychological injury, death, damage or loss of property. Such injuries and damage or loss of property are not the responsibility of AURAC to the maximum extent allowable by New Zealand law.
     

  2. I certify that I am voluntarily partaking in any AURAC activity or event and that I will behave prudently, and responsibly to ensure the safety of myself and others, including but not limited to, anyone partaking in AURAC activity or event, and members of the public.
     

  3. I agree to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), for example, a helmet and bouldering mat to minimise risk when partaking in any AURAC activity or event.
     

  4. I agree not to partake in free solo climbing in any AURAC activity or event.
     

  5. I agree to follow any instructions given to me by AURAC Independent Climbers, Instructors or Assessors in the interest of my safety or the public's safety.

 

Medical

  1. I certify that I am physically, and mentally fit and will ensure AURAC is aware of any pre-existing medical conditions, as well as other relevant information which may affect my participation in any AURAC activity or event. 
     

  2. I agree to receive relevant medical aid or preventative treatment which may be deemed advisable in the unfettered direction of any medical assistance personnel or organisations, including but not limited to, St. John New Zealand in the event of injury, accident or illness during any AURAC activity or event.

Responsible Conduct

  1. I agree not to discriminate, bully or harass others based upon, including but not limited to, ethnicity, national origin, political affiliation, religious beliefs, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, or physical or mental ability.
     

  2. I understand that AURAC has a high level of expectation regarding consent, endeavours, and consumption of alcohol and I will act as an appropriate ambassador of AURAC in line with these expectations.

Personal Information

  1. I understand that any information I provide to AURAC may be accessed or shared by AURAC members with other relevant organisations such as The University of Auckland, New Zealand Alpine Club, New Zealand Police, and New Zealand LandSAR to detect, prevent, or otherwise address safety issues, to assist any medical treatment, meet any enforceable government or University of Auckland requests, protect against harm to the rights, property or safety of AURAC and members, or the public as required or permitted by law, and other reasons as deemed by the AURAC Committee Members.

 

Photography, and Filming

  1. I understand that while participating in events held by AURAC, I may be photographed. I agree to allow my photo or video to be used for any legitimate purpose by members of AURAC.

 

Minors

  1. I certify that I am not a Minor, and understand that a Minor may attend any AURAC activity or events if AURAC Membership is granted, and if accompanied by non-Minor AURAC Membership holding parent or legal guardian, and if I bring a Minor to any AURAC activity or events, I agree that the contractual terms contained in this Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver Document will apply to the Minor, and I confirm that I am the Minor’s parent or legal guardian.

 

Gear

  1. I agree that I am responsible for checking the safety of any equipment borrowed from AURAC and reporting any damages, wear and tear or any event that may reduce integrity or impact safety. For example, a rope takes a factor 2 fall, fall damaged carabiner or belay device.
     

  2. I agree to respect all club gear and to cover the cost of lost or damaged gear caused by my actions if required.
     

  3. I agree not to borrow any equipment from AURAC or from its affiliates for anyone who is not a member of AURAC.
     

  4. I agree if hiring club gear to return it promptly or face a penalty. 

 

Miscellaneous

  1. I agree that I, nor my successors, executors, administrators, next of kin or any legal representative of my estate will not bring any action, proceeding or litigation against AURAC and its instructors, assessors any other member, for the risks laid out above.
     

  2. I agree that no compensatory, or any other form of damages, will be sought on my behalf in any court of New Zealand or any other country. This form shall be construed broadly to provide a release and waiver to the maximum extent permissible under applicable New Zealand law.
     

  3. I understand that by signing this form, I am giving up the legal rights and/or remedies which may be available to me against AURAC.

I understand that if I do not follow the terms of this agreement, I may be given a formal warning and following a second violation, my membership to AURAC may be terminated.
