Event Details

You must be an independent (or above) climber to come as there will be no supervision by AURAC instructors. OR have an independent climber agree to climb with you prior to signing up. (I will be checking)

This sign-up is to help facilitate carpooling and gear hire for AURAC members. There will be assigned Carpooling groups and it will be up to those groups to organise what time/day they want to come and go from Kbay. Please note that if you sign up as a driver you are expected to drive down either Thursday afternoon/ Friday morning and leave Monday afternoon/evening as per the Club's plan.

Kawakawa Bay is located on the north side of lake Taupo and is home to one of (if not) the best climbing area in the North Island. It has climbing of all disciplines easy to hard, short to long(100m+!).

It is accessible by a 2 hour track from the long term carpark in Kinloch. You can also rent a water taxi to take you (through an external provider) if you don't want to pack light (or want to stay 5+ days). It is camping, there are toilets and water from the lake. More details can be found on the link above and will be sent out in the confirmation email. Feel free to email me too!

AURAC gear will be at the bay from Friday morning to Monday afternoon. For those that signup, we will be offering to take ropes (possibly more, ie tents, guitars) on the boat with the rest of the club gear.

Easter weekend is a great time to be at the bay and experience a truly beautiful part of New Zealand.
