Our bi-annual O-trip saw us trade plastic holds for real rock at Waipari crag! O-trip is our first trip of the semester and is geared towards introducing members to outdoor climbing. Over 100 of you were keen to get amongst, so we had to split ourselves between Waipari and Wharepapa rock, another nearby crag.

On Saturday morning our instructor volunteers set up top ropes for our beginners, and more experienced climbers headed off to try trickier routes. After working up an appetite all day, we headed back to camp for some pizza.
A few members kindly set up slacklines so we tried a wobbly few seconds on the slackline- then the experts showed us how it was done!

Sunday saw more top roping at different areas of the crag, and at Waipari we cleaned crag debris from Cyclone Gabrielle. Emma, one of the landowners at Waipari, gave a talk about the importance of ACAT and climbing conservation.

A massive thanks to our organisers and volunteer instructors for making this trip possible!
